Day.... We're in Germany!!!!

The days that things happened are slightly blurred so this will just be our Munich update. We walked to the English Gardens across town which is a huge park that has hidden Beir Gartens and restaurants throughout. It also has a river that creates waves that people apparently surf... Even in January... It's not like surfing on the coast, it's more like surfing on a halfpipe I guess. It's just back and forth and turning. We weren't close enough to see what kind of board is used for this because a real surfboard would NOT work. Really cool to get to see it though. We both LOVED the hostel we stayed at in Munich. We made many Aussie friends and hung out with the Canadian kids from the Switzerland hostel. On our way to a beer hall we witnessed a Ferrari and Lambourgini race past the big cathedral and drift and all sorts of cool and dangerous things. They were sliding on the snow and I noticed there were cameras strapped to the tops of the roof of each car. Pretty sweet video I'm sure. We did a beer tour our last night in Munich. We went to 3 halls. There was a couple Aussie kids, one from the night before, and some kids from Washington D.C. It was a fun group. We had a bottle when we first met up then got a Liter then another liter then a pint... This was not a good morning for me. Randall finally did some laundry too! Super exciting stuff. We got up relatively early this morning and caught a train to Cologne, Germany. We went from the very south end to the north end and it was the longest train ride of my life! It took around 5 hours.

The empty and erie train station in Bern heading to Munich.

Night1: Schnitzel!

Walking to the Deutches Museum.

Outside the Museum: Otto Von Bismark with a snow mustache!

Lunch! Brat and Sauerkraut.

Myself geeking out in the room dedicated to Film and Photography

The first German U-Boat (U-1) that was supposed to have been destroyed after WWI by orders of the treaty.

The Munich Dom at night. Also where the Ferrari and Lambourgini rolled through. Built in the 13th century.

My first Litre!

Dinner at the Hafbrauhaus

Where many a beer has been drank. Fun fact: If you sit at the same table on the same night every week for five years, the brewery will give you your own personalized stein and will even lock it up when not in use AND will reserve your table on your night for you. That my friends is dedication and probably close to a failed liver as well.

Fun little contraption outside of the Toy Museum

A view of the English Garden.

My stepmother pointed out that we haven't taken any photos of where we are staying. This is in Munich.

Litre number 2 of the night. Another of Germany's great breweries.

Our current place in Cologne. Yes, it does look like a prison.

Day 10: Munich, Germany

So we've been lacking with the updates cause we're too busy drinking our way through Germany... Or recovering. Yesterday was awesome! We walked to the Deutsches Museum which is allegedly the largest science and technology museum in the world. We believe it. We spent around 5 hours walking through it and still don't feel like we saw half of it. There was a whole wing dedicated to biology and physics and DNA. Randall was in nerd heaven. There was also a whole room dedicated to photography and film. I have never seen so many cameras in one place and they had prints all the way from Daguerreotypes to digital prints. It was magical. On the walk back to our hostel we walked by several cathedrals and shops. We finished the night by heading down to our hostels bar for happy hour where we met up with our Aussie friends from the previous night. They had taken a tour of the concentration camp Dachau. We got to see photos and hear all about it. As heavy as it was we still had a great convo about it. They met up with several other Aussies from their tour and the Canadians we met in Bern joined and we all went to the famous beer hall, Hofbrauhaus. We got a LITER of beer and amazing Traditional German food. From there we came back to the hostel and closed down the bar! No pictures at the moment but they will be coming soon!

Day 8: Bern, Switzerland

Swiss beer!

Interesting note I found on the bottom bunk

Just walking down the streets of Old Town

The Old Clock Tower.

Bern's Cathedral

The Rose Garden

In front of the Parliament House

Fun statue/fountain we found in a hidden park with entirely untouched snow. A snowball fight ensued soon after this photo was taken.

Swiss Chocolate store. This is about 1/16 of the selection.

Just a little more snow :)

View from a park.

View from above our Hostel.

Today was fun. Had a great breakfast at the Hostel consisting of more than croissants and nutella. We had real american coffee, cheese, ham, toast, cereal, and so much more. We did a mini walking tour of all the fun sights in the city. It took us barely two hours. We wandered around some stores and Randall bought a new scarf that can be seen in some of the photos. What a great model! We planned our trip to Munich that is coming up tomorrow. We went to a grocery store. Finally bought some Swiss Chocolate! Had a great lunch of sandwiches. Wrote and sent out a couple post cards. And we played many hours of Temple Run 2. MUCH better than the previous Temple Run. Not too crazy of a day, but pretty great and very memorable.

Day 7: Bern, Switzerland

So far, we LOVE Switzerland!!! It is absolutely beautiful filled with friendly people and clean wonderful streets. We are staying at an incredible hostel and we even have some seemingly great Canadian roommates for the next couple days. (insert offensive jokes about Canada here.) There also seems to be some sort of 70's party or convention or Bern is just REALLY behind the times... We walked nearly the entire city tonight from the river up the shopping district, past the Old Town, found a gorgeous, beautiful Starbucks! (About $7.00 for a grande coffee). We grabbed some snacks from a super market that consisted of something like a apple cinnamon roll and some Swiss cookies. The train ride was awesome. I edited a lot of old photos that I had seriously been procrastinating because it was a long ride. We saw the Alps and so many cool little towns on the way. Fun fact the city we are in, Bern, was either named for the bears that the royal family once upon a time kept as pets or it was named after the German word for beer. Not sure which is actually true. AND the Swiss Franc is basically the same as the US dollar so... kinda cool I suppose. That means stuff isn't entirely as expensive as if we were exchanging our money for the Euro. This is the first country we've both been to where neither of us don't know a single thing about the language. It's an extremely weird feeling for me (Kayla) personally. We can't even figure out what language they speak here to TRY and learn it. It's absolutely crazy. Switzerland has like 4 national languages and Bern itself has its own special form of some form of German or something.... I don't know. You google it and if you find out let us know! Seriously. Hope everyone is doing well!!!! Enjoy our new pictures :)

Our first Swiss meal :)

The first thing we saw when we got off the train. Scary language, but a sight for sore eyes in that beautiful green!

The bear of Bern

One of the many cathedrals and clocks in town

beautiful houses and streets and an even more beautiful sunset.

Our ride from Italy to Switz

The Old Clock tower of the original Bern

The Parliament building located directly above our hostel.

A little lift to help get up and down the steep slopes of Switzerland

What a happy adorable kid!

Such a gorgeous view!

First and only amazing dinner we had. Bruchetta, Lasagna, and spaghetti.
